Gilmer Housing Authority

Gilmer, Texas

Our Mission
The Gilmer Housing Authority strives to provide decent, safe and sanitary housing for low-income individuals, families, the elderly, and persons with disabilities.

What We Do
Since 1952, Gilmer Housing Authority (GHA) has provided housing for low-income individuals, families, the elderly, and persons with disabilities. In 1982, GHA expanded to own, operate, and manage Multi-family Housing under HUD’s (United States Department of Housing and Urban Development) New Construction Program.

GHA is governed by a five-member Board of Commissioners and administers 140 Public Housing Units, and 64 New Construction Units (Multi-family Housing). GHA does not offer HCV (Housing Choice Vouchers), previously Section 8 Housing Choice Vouchers. The housing programs at GHA are income based and the eligibility guidelines are set by HUD.

Where We Are

A Message From Our Executive Director

"I am proud and excited to serve my community with affordable housing. As the Executive Director it is my goal to maintain neighborhoods where our tenants and prospective tenants enjoy living. I am pleased to say the GHA has an excellent group of office and maintenance staff! Whether we are serving you or a loved one, we hope to help make everyone feel at home!"

Domestic Violence Protections

The Violence Against Women Reauthorization Act of 2013 (VAWA 2013) expands housing protections for victims of domestic violence, dating violence, sexual assault, or stalking. Changes under VAWA 2013 include extending protections to survivors of sexual assault; allowing survivors who remain in the unit to establish eligibility or find new housing when a lease is bifurcated; providing survivors with emergency transfers; and additional notification to applicants and tenants of housing rights under VAWA. While these changes substantially extend VAWA's coverage to include most affordable housing programs, they provide no protection to tenants in private market-rate housing but do apply to tenants with vouchers in private market-housing.

GHA will provide all protection under VAWA 2013 to program participants and family members of program participants who are victims of domestic violence, dating violence, sexual assault or stalking from being evicted or terminated from housing assistance based on acts of such violence against them.
